In 1992, a shipping crate full of rubber ducks was lost at sea going from the US to China. Oceanographers have used the ducks to study ocean currents. They were found all over the Pacific ocean as well as frozen in the artic and Scotland. The ducks helped researchers determine it takes 3 years for ocean currents to fully circulate. And they brought attention to the huge Pacific garbage patch.
